My second visit to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was when we silenced the Communists-tactics-influenced Zambians. I had never seen a stadium so filled up with such excited fans before. It was an awesome experience I will relish for a long time. I made so much noise on social media that my bigheaded friend Francis Doku wondered if that was my first experience in a stadium. Well, it was not. But it was my best.
You probably have read from our sports journalists what went down so let me not bore you with details you are already familiar with. However a certain group of indecent, uncultured, animalistic, manner-less, nitwits nearly threw spokes into what was undoubtedly a rollicking experience for most of us.
I will do this piece more of a picture story. The photos you see just show firstly the enormous number of people that thronged Baba Yara. The others are the idiots who choose to urinate on the walls of the inner perimeter in the glaring view of thousands of fans. Would you believe that? They say pictures no lie.
Yes, I know the washrooms were filled to the brim during the intervals, but does that justify in any way why human beings should behave like animals? Police personnel were deployed all over and in fact, there were some just around where these animals disguised as humans were pissing into bottles, polythene bags and on the walls of the stadium.
I suggest we keep police personnel watching the stands like it happened but they should stay there for the entire duration of the game. We know that we are generally very indiscipline until we see authority figures around us. So come on Police, treat soccer fans like babies who need guidance on what to do.
Secondly, it won’t be a bad idea to have mobile washrooms added to the inbuilt ones for big games like what we witnessed.
By the way, my colleagues and I including Caroline Sampson from YFM, Pius Tufuor and Dennis Awuah from Airtel, Josephine Osei-Mainoo and Yaw Tsen-Yeboah from the University of Ghana did what we could to prevent these hoodlums from engaging in that despicable act. However our shouts, shaming and calling out to police was all in vain.
If the National Sports Authority does not know, this is what happens at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Does it happen in others? Probably.
